Walkability an Increasingly Valuable Real Estate Asset

Walkability Scores Big in the Burlingables Neighborhood

As sensitivity of gas prices and energy consumption increases, the walkability of a neighborhood has become an even stronger real estate asset. The Web site at www.walkscore.com rates neighborhoods on their walkability. Burlingame's Concord Way (Burlingables neighborhood bordering Washington Park), for example, was scored 75 out of 100: "Very Walkable"  according to the site. Homebuyers moving from San Francisco to the Peninsula, a key buyer demographic of Burlingame homes, are especially tuned into proximity of downtown shopping, dining, recreation, parks, and commute ease to airport and the City. The tree-lined streets of Burlingables and Lyon Hoag offer this elusive balance of cosmopolitan connection and village charm...and thus, the heightened desirability and value of these neighborhoods. The 10-minute drive time into San Francisco International Airport and increasingly strong scores at local Washington Elementary don't hurt values either!
